Such an unusual soft silk with a kind of rustic look because of the fiddlehead fern fiber mixed in it. Very traditional yarn from the northern part of Japan, Niigata.

This is the kind of silk, which is a result of a very patient recycling. Farmers would go into the mountain in the Spring to collect edible ferns. There is a brown fiber, which needs to be picked out before they cook. They will never throw the fiber out, but let it pile in the kitchen. It will be used as an accent for the silk they spin later.

Wonderful for lace knitting. Good weft yarn. Very rare to find those days.
