This hemp fiber is specially grown & harvested only to create a braided rope hanging at the entrance way to the shrines and temples in Japan. The farm is burned each time after the harvest to prevent any misuse of the left over crop.
It has a beautiful golden sheen, soft and light. You can create a beautiful fiber by splitting it by finger nails and connecting the ends together, which is a traditional method of creating a continuous thread "te-umi."
