habu

"habu" came from the name of a "very..." poisonous snake, which is unique to southern islands of Japan, Okinawa. Ever since I begun weaving, I have been in love with the textiles in Okinawa. I wanted to have a name related to those islands."Ha" means "wave." "Bu" means "fabric." We chose a different charachter for "ha" for our name, which means "no. 8." Because of its bottom wide shape, this number is believed to bring a life, which will slowly, but eventually opens up for you.

textiles

Habu is a studio and showrool/gallery for simple natural fabrics. Most fabrics are handwoven, hand-dyed or hand-tied. Yarns are most often hand-dyed with natural dyes such as indigo, madder, logwood, and fustic. Some are one-of-a-kinds. rarely duplicated, designed for unique garments, home accessories, upholstery, drapery or created to be appreciated aesthetically as an example of superb crafsmanship "as what they are." Please visit our textile showroom for more.

samazama

"samazama" means "all sorts of anything and everything" in Japanese. Here - we mean "samazama" in Japanese contemporary and traditioal textiles. This page is where we would like to introduce you to a selection of unusual textiles and yarns in Japan. There is a concern that many of those are disappearing, and that unfortunately it will be impossible to revive them once they are gone. We would like to bring you the most recent information about them. Please visit samazama. (Sorry! underconstruction still...)
