Habu textiles was
established in 1999 as a studio for Takako Ueki's handwoven textiles.
In December 2000, Habu opened a showroom to present texitles
by Ueki and by Japanese and American handweavers. It was opened
to introduce simple but unusual texiltes to an American public.
At Habu, a weaver is asked to produce pleasing, unique, beautiful
length of fabric without considering what the end use might be.
The resulting fabric might be short or long, wide or narrow and
it is up to the customer to decide whether to exercise her/his
creativity and make something from it or simply to enjoy and
appreciate it as an example of superb craftsmanship.
It is the hope of Habu that our texitles will offer inspiration,
and that our studio will be recognized as a place where the production
of textiles is honored as a way of life.
